1.0 MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!

Sedar tak sedar, kita dah pun sambut bulan kemerdekaan.

Erti Kemerdekaan

Terima kasih pejuang negara! This year, Malaysia will celebrate its 64th anniversary of independence. Jadi, I nak tanya, apa sebenarnya erti merdeka bagi korang sebagai rakyat Malaysia?

From my personal opinion, I think ‘Merdeka is when we are able to appreciate and respect the differences in terms of language, religion, belief, tradition and culture among all Malaysians. That is the first step to achieve national unity.

We need to celebrate all the differences regardless of race and religion because our country is one of the most diverse countries in Asia. To create harmony, all parties have to make sacrifices because you cannot have mutual trust or a mutual relationship unless you are prepared to make some sacrifice for the other.

Story Time: Merdeka dan Suci Cup

Suci Cup is indeed a great option for mess free period care product. Personally, I memang ada some experiences with messy period sebelum ni. I kena cuci dan tukar cadar baru, gosok tilam lagi. Walaupun I pakai overnight pads bila malam, still the pad moves masa I tengah tidur.

My first time trying out for the Suci Cup was in July 2021. Yes, I used to be so scared just by thinking of how that thing (menstrual cup) is gonna fit into my vagina. Tapi, I jenis suka nak cuba sesuatu yang baru, apatah lagi yang memberikan banyak benefit to me and my body. I managed to insert the cup after my second attempt. Honestly, the feeling is just indescribable. I feel free and excited at the same time. It’s my life saviour when it comes to overnight use.

Now I dah tak perlu risau pasal bocor bila bangun pagi and I can sleep better at night too. I am a fan of pastel colours, my outfits are mostly white, purple and soft pink. Bila nak keluar jalan jalan pun, I feel more confident to wear my favourite white skirts even on day two. Dengan yakinnya, I dah tak bawa bekal pad dalam handbag. Haha confident kan? What I can say is, Suci Cup really changed my mind, myself and my life. So ladies, jom merdekakan your body and mind from having a messy period with the Suci Cup!

2.0 BOOK REVIEW:

National Identity Formation in This End of the Rainbow by Adibah Amin

This End of the Rainbow was written in early 2000 but the novel was officially released in 2006. This novel mainly describes the issues of colonialism, social injustice and racial prejudice that happened in the early 1950s. In the book, Adibah Amin is advocating for the readers to provide equal justice to all the citizens in Malaysia. Today, Malaysia still seems to be in a similar kind of situation that Adibah Amin has written about. We are still racially divided, sort of segregated in political parties mainly due to the fault of a leader to get their power. Adibah Amin also points out that Malaysia is not as good as everyone thinks because we don’t have racial harmony.

The story actually follows Adibah’s personal life. The main character named Ayu is actually Adibah herself. She is fictionalising her real experiences and taking a lot of material from her own life experience. National identity is an important idea brought to the novel, in order to unite all people from various ethnicities to build a strong bond between the Malayans and the colonists during that time. The harmony in life regardless of race, culture and religion is one of the themes that Adibah Amin attempts to highlight in this novel. This can be seen through the relationship of Ayu, Han and Surmeet.

Since childhood, Ayu has been friends with people from various races such as Han, who is Chinese and Surmeet, who is Punjabi. The relationship between Ayu and Han is central to the perception of national identity formation as they share similar views and perspectives regarding the unity of all races in one organization. Both of them are opposed to the idea of segregation of society based on race. For example, when Han’s family was killed by the colonial power, Ayu was there to accompany him and provide him with moral support, although they have different backgrounds in life.

The character of Han also depicted that he had a high spirit of unity when he began a multiracial political party. For example, after 9 years, Han returned to the village to give a talk on unity through the Youth Club. Furthermore, the friendship between Ayu and Surmeet reflects on the national identity formation through the deep and meaningful friendship that they portray. As an example, Ayu visited Surmeet and ate together at her house with Surmeet’s family during lunch. This relationship shows that both of them are really close friends and treat each other with respect despite their differences in race and religion.
